On Saturday, the soldiers joined the revolutionary side in the northwestern city of Misratah.
The opposition fighters are keeping a hold on Misratah, which is only 150 kilometres east of the Libyan capital Tripoli.
Government soldiers recently launched assaults on Misratah in an attempt to wrest the town back from rebel civilians.
The Gaddafi camp has been regrouping to take back territory lost to them after anti-government protests began on February 15th.
Libyan anti-government forces are fighting to get rid of Gaddafi, who has ruled Libya for over 41 years.
